The experience I had in DEM made a great impact on my career in healthcare as it opened many doors to invaluable opportunities and connections. I know the friendships I made in this fraternity will last a lifetime, and I am so grateful to be a part of a community of such passionate individuals.

Joining DEM my second year of college meant much more to me than I could've imagined at the time. As a first year I really struggled to find my community at UCLA. Through DEM, I was able to meet my best friends in college who I hope to keep up with for the rest of my life. We applied to medical school together and we continue to support each other as we go through our first year at different medical schools across the country. Professionally, DEM provided me with interpersonal skills for networking, time management strategies, and invaluable mentorship from upperclassmen. DEM's greatest resource is the community, both of current students and alumni who are all more than willing to help in any way. :-)

Crazy to think that three years ago I helped found DEM at UCLA and now I'm halfway through my first semester of medical school! DEM helped me further develop skills vital to achieving my goals, but it's the lasting friendships and supportive network I'm most grateful for—we're all scattered across the country now striving for that MD, DO, PharmD, DDS, OD, etc., but we’re still always there for each other.

UC Berkeley School of optometry
Hey everyone, my name is Janice and I am a founder of UCLA DEM. It's pretty crazy to think back to the person I was in my early undergrad years before I had DEM in comparison to the person I've become since then. I've gained professionalism and leadership skills which have guided me through my journey to applying for optometry school. I reinforced hard work, dedication, and compassion through DEM, which has significantly impacted my personal growth. Lastly, the people I have met through DEM have been and will continue to be one of my greatest support systems through college, graduate school and beyond. I thank DEM for guiding me to my home at UC Berkeley, School of Optometry.
